Hello friends. Like many of you in the United States, I’m struggling to think of much else aside from the impending election. Throughout the course of most days, I find myself vacillating between feeling anxious, furious, repulsed, or frightened. I wish I had something helpful or interesting or different to tell you, but I don’t except to say, Vote like our democracy depends on it because it does.
To avoid completely spiraling into despair, I’ve been leaning hard into nature, writing, and community. I find without fail that intentionally making sure I spend time doing all three keeps me grounded and hopeful. Combining writing and community has led me to writing circles. While there are many writing circles focused on craft, lately I’ve been more drawn to those that are generative and focused on free writing.
