"Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels"
Overcoming a deprivation mindset in our size-fixated society
Fall is my favorite time of year: cool weather after the swamp-like humidity of summer, leaves changing colors, snuggling up beneath piles of blankets with a book, and most importantly, the delicious, hearty fare that comes with colder temperatures. However, November is when I begin to steel myself for all the comments, predominantly from women, about the guilt they feel for indulging in the celebratory foods of the season.
A few weeks ago, I attended a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion conference with nearly four hundred of my colleagues from across the United States and Canada. While I was there, one of my colleagues and I ate nearly all our meals together. Our offerings were decadent, and over the course of three days, she and I shared and savored as much as we could.
