Hello friends! I recently shared that writing workshops for paid subscribers are evolving to monthly 90-minute generative writing sessions where we explore the work of a different poet and use their poems as writing prompts for our own self-exploration. Whether you consider yourself an experienced writer or you have not written anything creative since your elementary school book report, these monthly circles are for you.
While there are hundreds of writers who teach about form and structure, I prefer creating space for more open-ended creativity without the guardrails. Before every Nature & Nurture Hiking and Writing Retreat, I have at least two attendees claim they are not writers. Without exception, after a few writing workshops with other thoughtful, gentle humans, they begin to open up. They are surprised to find that in a warm, safe environment they write poignant, tender pieces. Writing in community is magic. Poetry and writing connect us to ourselves and to one another across space and time. I hope you’ll join us.
It felt only right to kick off our Poetry as Medicine writing series with Mary Oliver, who has been a tremendous inspiration to me and my writing. We’ll meet next Sunday, June 23rd, at 7PM CST. The Zoom link for the session will be sent via e-mail to all paid subscribers on Saturday, June 22nd.
The annual subscription gets you all twelve writing circles for under $5 a month. All poems and writing prompts will be sent out after each session, so if you are unable to attend live, you still get to dig into the poet’s work on your own time.
I’ve included a few Mary Oliver poems and writing prompts below to whet your appetite for next Sunday’s session.
I can’t wait to write with you all next week!
